Portland cement is the grinding of raw materials including limestone, clay, and iron ore, and then is made clinker under different temperatures. The clinker is grinding with gypsum. The main Portland cement components are silicate, aluminate, calcium salts, etc. After the material is crushed reacts with hydrated silicate gel, hydrated aluminate gel and other gels.
Portland Cement Production Process
STEP1: Raw material preparation
- The limestone, clay, iron ore are crushed separately in crusher. The crushing size should be controlled below 25 mm.
- Limestone 60-70%, clay 20-30%, iron ore 5-10%, gypsum 2-3% are mixed in proportion, ensure different materials have an accurate ratio.
STEP2: Calcination
The material is sent to rotary kiln. Fuel is fed and burned in the rotary kiln bottom. Hot air flows from bottom to top in the kiln, the temperature gradually rises and a series of complex chemical reactions occur. Then Calcium silicate, calcium aluminate, and calcium ferroaluminate begin to form in the liquid phase. When the materials are lowered to the bottom, the temperature drops rapidly. It is clinker.
STEP3: Cooling and grinding
- In the cement production, the cement clinker is made in rotary kiln has high temperature. So the cement needs to gradually cool from a high temperature to 800, then let it cool naturally.
- The clinker is grinding with gypsum, then mix them and grind them. Grinding is used for cement mill through rotation and friction, finally get qualified clinker.

Crushing equipment
Jaw crusher is a core equipment, which is mainly used for the primary crushing of limestone, clay, iron ore and other raw materials. It could crush bigger stones and has a good crushing effect. The output is high. Impact crusher applies to crush limestone and other brittle material. It controls particles by bolt at the end of the impact plate. So it has high production and saves energy.It has fine particle size and less wear. It is a more stable operation.
Rotary kiln
The rotary kiln is the main equipment which is a cement dry and wet production line. It is composed of a cylinder body, supporting device, supporting device with stop wheel, driving device, movable kiln head, kiln tail sealing device, coal injection pipe device and so on. It has a high output and works safely.
Grinding equipment
The cement grinding is the last step. It is responsible for continuously grinding mixed material including a cement ball mill and cement vertical mill. The cement mill is a core machine to control quality and cost. Because the power consumption of the cement mill accounts for one-third of all costs and cement clinker grinding into specific particles can compensate for its quality.
Cooling machine
The cement enters from the cooling machine end and is lifted through a spiral blade. Because the high speed rotation of the spiral blade fixed on the rotor makes the cooling cement throw to the inner side of the cooling cylinder, then it is sent to exit at a certain speed.
Packing machine
The cement is sent to the packing workshop and bulk workshop. the cement packed with a packing machine. It could be loaded and transported or sent to a cement warehouse.
