The purpose of lime calcination is to calcinate a mineral high with calcium carbonate such as limestone, dolomite, and chalk at a high temperature of 1000 ~ 1100℃ through a specific process flow, so as to produce lime. The process involves various steps, including crushing, preheating, calcining, cooling, grinding, and dusting. It needs specific requirements.
Manufacturing Process Of Lime
STEP1: Pretreatment
- Crushing and Screening: Limestone is crushed as small particles by the jaw crusher and impact crusher. Crushed limestone should be screened to remove soil and impurities. This improves raw material fineness.
- Mixing: Crushed and screened limestone need to be mixed at a certain ratio, it ensures stability and uniformity of product during calcination.
STEP2: Preheat
Limestone should be preheated before calcination to improve limestone temperature and reduce energy during calcination. Preheating is performed using a preheater, limestone is heated to 900 degrees by high-temperature flue gas.
STEP3: Calcination
Preheated limestone is sent to a lime rotary kiln to calcine. In lime kilns, limestone is decomposed at high temperatures to produce calcium oxide and carbon dioxide. The process of decomposition reaction is endothermic. So, it needs to provide heat using fuel.
STEP4: Waste gas treatment
Limestone decomposed gas needs treatment during calcination. After dust removal, desulfurization, and other treatment processes, the exhaust gas is emitted into the atmosphere by the chimney. At the same time, waste gas heat could be recycled by the heat exchanger, and improve energy efficiency.
STEP5: Cooling and grinding
- Lime has a high temperature after calcination. It should cool treatment. The cooling method has two types blast cooling and chamber cooling. Blast cooling is cooling at a certain temperature by blowing in cold air. Chamber cooling is the natural cooling of lime in the cooling chamber. Cooled lime temperature is low to be convenient for follow-up treatment.
- Cooled lime should be ground to make lime power meet requirements. In the grinding process, lime is ground to a certain size of particle. Ground lime powder has a large surface and high activity. So it is easy to react with other substances.
STEP6: Packing
The lime powder transportation adopts bag or bulk, the bag lime is convenient for take and transport. But the cost is high. The bulk lime cost is low. It needs specific transportation and equipment. In the transport process, it needs to pay attention to the lime such as moisture, caking, and environmental pollution.

Crusher
It is used for crushing lime to meet calcination requirements for particles. Common devices are jaw crushers, impact crushers, and hammer crushers.
Calciner
It is a core of the lime production line. Commonly used equipment is a shaft kiln, rotary kiln, and sleeve kiln. Shaft kiln has a simple structure, and covers a small area but calcination temperature fluctuates greatly. Rotary kiln has various calcination methods, it has the advantage of high output and Uniform calcination temperature. Sleeve kilns combine the advantages of rotary kilns and shaft kilns. It is the best choice for producing lime.
Convey equipment
It is used for the transportation of calcination lime, commonly used screw conveyor, bucket elevator, etc. Screw convey is a lime kiln unloading equipment. The calcined quicklime powder is transported from the bottom of the kiln to the aggregate bin or storage bin through the rotation of spiral blades.
Screening machinery
Calcinated lime is screened to achieve specific particles. Commonly used equipment has a roller screen, a vibrating screen, and so on.
Environmental equipment
In the lime process, it needs environmental equipment such as a dust collector, and an induced draft fan to reduce dust and waste gas.
