The process of castor oil processing plant
- RStep 1 Cleaning: Castor seed removes big impurities with a vibrating screen and magnetic separator. Washing or air-cleaning removes light impurities.
- Step 2 Shelling: The outer shell of castor seeds accounts for 20% to 30% of the seed weight. It contains a small amount of oil and also contains toxins (such as ricin). The shell is separated from the kernel by an impact-type shelling machine or grinding machine.
- Step 3 Crushing: The castor seed is crushed into small pieces, then it is pressed into thin sheets by a rolling machine (0.2-0.4mm), broken cellular structure and an increased oil rate.
- Step 4 Pressing: Cold press: the temperature is below 60 degrees. It could retain more nutrition, and the oil rate is low. Hot press: After steaming and stir-frying the seeds until they reach a temperature of 100-120℃, the pressing process is carried out. The oil yield can be increased to 40%-45%, but high temperature may affect the quality of the oil.
- Step 5 Refining: The extracted oil needs to be refined. Refining involves steps such as degumming and deacidification to produce a pure oil.
