how to extract corn oil?

  • Step 1: Cleaning: corn germ first removes the germ by a clean sieve and a magnetic separator, so as not to damage the production equipment.
  • Step 2: Softening: softening is to adjust the temperature and water content of corn germ, it could increase plasticity and prevent excessive powder production.
  • Step 3: Peeling: the thickness of the corn germ is 0.2-0.3mm. This process could have a difference in oil yield and the production of equipment.
  • Step 4: Cooking: the effect of cooking mainly depends on temperature, water content, and time. In the cooking process, oil is heated and the water is adjusted to the ideal state.  
  • Step 5: Pressing: the temperature of oil cake should be controlled at 100℃. The corn germ has higher oil content, so it is pressed twice for oil. After the first oil extraction, the corn germ is crushed, steamed, and peeled into a cake, then pressed. In the process of corn oil pressing, please pay attention to the cleaning of the oil circuit. The oil yield of corn germ is about 16%-20%.
  • Step 6: Refining: corn oil has free fatty acids, phospholipid binding proteins, mucus, and other non-glycerin vinegar impurities. During alkali refining, oil and lye will be emulsified, which will affect the refining of corn oil. So, before refining, firstly degumming by hydration. Hydration is the heating of corn oil to 75-80 ℃, adding 5%-10% water, stirring at the same time, adding an appropriate amount of salt. The refined oil meets the national standard and can be sold in the market.

Notes: “Screw oil press” is usually used oil press processes in the production of small and medium corn oil. (The oil yield is about 70%). “Pre-pressing and solvent extraction” is more suitable for an industrial corn oil mill. (The oil yield of corn germs can reach 98%).
